Work begins on Bolton 208 new home scheme

A scheme to bring 208 new homes to Bolton town centre has begun, with spades in the ground this week at the former Moor Lane bus station.

Developer Step Places and social housing provider Bolton at Home have begun work to redevelop the area. It will comprise a mix of apartments as well as 44 luxury three bedroom townhouses.

126 homes will be available for private rent or sale. In addition, 82 affordable properties will be available for rent, rent to buy or for shared ownership.

Thoughtfully Designed

The Step Places website states “The houses boast excellent specifications and are thoughtfully designed with longevity in mind, incorporating many energy saving features and sustainable building materials. Specification is top drawer with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, designer kitchen and contemporary design.”

The three-storey townhouses featured in the development “differentiate” the project from other town centre developments, according to Step Places managing director Harry Dhaliwal.

“Our scheme has been carefully embedded into the wider town centre masterplan and will drive wider benefits for the residents and businesses of Bolton,” Dhaliwal, added.

Architects Aew have designed homes on three sites in Bolton which includes the vacant bus station off Moor Lane. According to Aew’s website, "The aim of this key development is to regenerate the site and act as a catalyst for future development.

Proposals

The proposals will provide a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments for a range of tenures including affordable general needs, affordable over 55’s and private rent. All the apartments provide ample cycle facilities and are designed to nationally described space standards (NDSS). The private rent buildings also feature concierge and gym facilities. The buildings are designed to complement the civic location and are arranged around central community courtyards which provide secure parking and space for play and socialising.”

The planning committee for Bolton Council approved the 4.5-acre project in November.

Cllr Martyn Cox, leader of Bolton Council said:

“These exciting plans for a major town centre brownfield site are starting to be built following extensive consultation with local residents. The Moor Lane development will bring much needed new high-quality homes, green spaces and public spaces to Bolton.

“The benefits this development brings to our town are great, both to boost our local economy and create a new neighbourhood in the heart of Bolton.”
