Consultation launched on plans for 900 homes at former Poole power station site.

Plans have been brought forward to develop the waterfront site of a former power station in Poole, including plans for 900 homes, with a public consultation.

Urban regeneration venture FuturePlaces, owned by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council, said the development is 'the largest brownfield regeneration site in the South West'.

BCP Council said the area of the former power station in Poole was designated as an "important area for future regeneration".

Consultation

A public consultation has been launched on plans to transform the site into a huge “waterfront quarter” providing up to 900 new homes.

FuturePlaces has been commissioned by the local authority to bring forward recommendations for what it says is the largest brownfield regeneration project in the South West.

The 40-acre site in Hamworthy, owned by BCP Council, is the former location of Holes Bay power station, but has lain empty for more than 25 years.

Important Area

The area has been deemed important due to its proximity to Poole town centre, the commercial Port of Poole and neighbouring residential areas

Gail Mayhew, managing director of FuturePlaces, said: “We have already been working with local businesses and community groups to find out what’s important in any future development at Holes Bay and are now looking to hear from the wider community.

“Our vision is to create an inspirational new waterfront quarter urban village for the community, creating new jobs, commercial opportunities and inward investment.”

Ms Mayhew added: “This is an opportunity for people to share photos and images of architecture, green space, public realm and building material that they have seen used elsewhere that they would like to see in the Holes Bay development.”

Private Investment

FuturePlaces was established by the council last year as a vehicle to attract investment from private property investment firms and developers for the delivery of thousands of new jobs and homes for the region.

The authority said it wanted to hear ideas from businesses and community groups on what to do with the site.

It has set up a series of drop in events to gather "recommendations for the creation of a new urban village".
