Harlow & Gilston Garden Town awarded £700,000 by Homes England.
Harlow and Gilston Garden Town (HGGT) has been awarded funds to build 23,000 new homes.
The Garden Communities programme supports house building in 43 towns and villages from Cornwall to Carlisle. It will deliver over 300,000 homes, up to 90,000 of which will be affordable.
The Gilston Area forms part of the wider Harlow and Gilston Garden Town. The area was designated a Garden Town by the Ministry for Homes, Communities and Local Government in January 2017.
Partnership
The funding will be used towards programmes and projects that will shape the future of Harlow & Gilston Garden Town.
It is part of a £15m fund to support delivery of thousands of new homes in green Garden Communities across England.
“We’re delighted that Homes England and the Department of Levelling Up, Homes and Communities continue to be supportive of our vision for the future,” commented Garden Town Director, Naisha Polaine.
“Five councils united by a collective goal of sustainable local growth and creating new opportunities is something that residents in East Herts, Harlow and Epping Forest can be very excited about.
Land
East Herts District Council has allocated land in the Gilston Area for a new development. As well as new homes, the site will deliver a significant amount of new infrastructure including schools, facilities and parks.
In addition, financial contributions will be made to off-site infrastructure. These will include new roads and bridges to improve connectivity over the River Stort.
These plans support the Government’s plans to level up the country. This is as well as regenerating underused land and bring forward beautiful new developments,
Levelling Up
This funding is in addition to the £1.5 billion Levelling Up Home Building Fund. The fund will help SME builders and deliver over 42,000 new homes in England.
Housing Minister Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP said: “Building beautiful new homes in the places they are most needed lies at the heart of the Government’s levelling up mission.
“Garden villages and towns are perfect examples of the vibrant, green communities we want to see right across the country and today’s funding will allow us to work hand-in-hand with local leaders and industry to deliver the high-quality new homes that we need.”
